What we collect

Reel Video Captions is a transcript-based editor for long-form podcasts. You edit your recording by reading and searching its transcript, and you can save finished clips to your account library. We collect the minimum data needed to provide each feature you use.

• Your recording and its audio. Your video stays on your device while you edit. To generate the transcript, the audio track is sent to our server and transcribed using the OpenAI Whisper API. When you export, the clip or episode is rendered on our server.
• Account data. If you create an account, your email address and optional display name from Google sign-in. If you purchase, your Stripe customer ID, billing country, and card brand/last-four.
• Saved clips. Clips you choose to save are stored in your account library so you can return to them.
• Product analytics. We use PostHog and Mixpanel to count anonymous page views and feature interactions so we can prioritize improvements. No personal data is attached unless you are signed in.

Your video and audio

Your source video stays on your own device while you edit, so there is no multi-gigabyte upload before you can start. To build the transcript, the audio track of your recording is sent to our server and transcribed using the OpenAI Whisper API; OpenAI's data handling is governed by their own policy at openai.com/policies. When you export a clip or episode, it is rendered on our server and returned to you.

We do not use your content to train any model, and we do not sell it or share it with anyone beyond the processors named in this policy.

Saved clips and library

Clips you save are stored in Amazon S3 under a per-user prefix and are accessible only to you. You can delete any clip from your library at any time. If you do not save a clip, it is not retained in your library after your session.

Cookies and local storage

We use localStorage for PostHog and Mixpanel session identifiers. No tracking cookies, no third-party ad pixels, no cross-site profiling.

Account data

If you create an account, we store your email address (from Google sign-in), an optional display name, and your purchase status. Authentication is handled by Supabase Auth; your data is held in Supabase's EU/US infrastructure depending on your region.

Billing

Reel Video Captions is a one-time purchase of $50 for unlimited use. Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store or have access to your full card number; Stripe holds it. We retain only your Stripe customer ID, billing country, and the last-four/brand of your card as Stripe surfaces them.

Refunds. Email us within 30 days of your purchase for a full refund, no questions asked.

Data security

We protect sensitive data, including account credentials, library clips, and billing identifiers, using the following mechanisms:

• Encryption in transit. All traffic between your browser, our servers, and our third-party processors (Supabase, Stripe, OpenAI, AWS) is encrypted using TLS 1.2+. The site is served exclusively over HTTPS with HSTS enabled.
• Encryption at rest. Account records are encrypted at rest in Supabase, and database backups are encrypted with the same standard. Library clips in Amazon S3 are stored in a private bucket accessible only via short-lived signed URLs scoped to the requesting user.
• Access controls. Production data is accessible only to a small number of authorized engineers via SSO with mandatory two-factor authentication. Access is logged and reviewed. We do not allow third parties or contractors access to user data.
• Per-user isolation. Library clips in S3 use a per-user object prefix, and row-level security in our database ensures users can only read or modify their own records.
• Secrets management. API keys and database credentials are stored in a managed secrets vault, never committed to source control, and rotated on a regular schedule.
• Minimization and retention. We collect only the data needed to provide each feature, and we delete account data within 30 days of an account deletion request (see Account deletion below).
• Incident response. We monitor for unauthorized access and will notify affected users and applicable regulators within 72 hours of confirming a personal-data breach, consistent with GDPR Article 33.

Account deletion

To delete your account, email us at the address in Contact (or use Settings → Delete account once it ships). On request we delete your profile, your library clips and S3 keys, and your Stripe customer record. Stripe retains payment events for tax and audit purposes for the legally required period.

Your rights

You can request a copy of your account data or its deletion at the email below. Because your source video is not uploaded or stored by us during editing, there is nothing to export or delete for footage you did not save to your library.
